Pushing Myself A Bit On Guitar

I joined Eric Haugen on Patreon today. I love Eric’s approach to teaching, so I hope my contribution will help him continue to create some of the most useful online content I’ve found.

I was inspired by a comment by Mick on That Pedal Show about needing to make the time to play his beautiful new gold Strat – and one of the perks that Eric offers his Patreon supporters is a voucher for his guitar tablature. “Learn a song a month” as he puts it. I definitely benefitted from the pressure of working up new material for the band I was in last year (it’s all very well being a “singer songwriter”, but I find I end up playing the same stuff I already know and not really stretching what I can do), so I intend to use that offer to force myself to play outside my comfort zone.

The timing could be good too, because I’ve just met up with a bass player  with a view to getting something together.

  1. Rowan,
Your point is well taken as most of us from your years on Aeroscale tend to stay within the bounds of our comfort zones which is kind of like just playing the songs you already know and are comfortable with.

Like you, I have more then one hobby that shares the limelight with modeling: Sim Racing, and finding time to learn new cars and new tracks is something I tend to shy away from whenever possible, as it’s also a great time saver.
