Maybe one day I’ll remember to dust a sub-assembly before taking a photo! But, anyway, it’s high time to show some progress on the new Eduard Wildcat. The partly-completed undercarriage legs are only clipped in at the moment (to make painting easier) but, barring a little clean-up here and there, I think the gear bay is ready for some basic paint tomorrow. It’s clear, even at this stage, that Eduard’s take on the undercarriage section is in a different league compared with the older Tamiya and Hobby Boss kits.
I’ve strayed slightly from Eduard’s suggested assembly sequence, making sure the legs line up correctly before installing the firewall in the fuselage. I can see why Eduard show them fitted later because they will be quite exposed and easy to damage while you build the rest of the airframe, but it’s tempting to install them at this stage and just be careful not to knock them. Perhaps I’ll build a little shield to protect them.
I’ve got a couple of days off work ahead – then Sunday and part of the bank holiday next week – so I hope to start to get a bit of momentum going with the build.
