This could be fun! I’m always a sucker for a ‘109, but I missed the 1:48 Dora Wings kit of the early variants when it was released and it’s no longer in their catalogue. A visit to https://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk this evening showed they still have it in stock, so I snapped one up! It’ll probably be a step towards “short-run” modelling, but that’s really where my heart lies – while I love the perfection of the latest state-of-the-art mainstream kits, there’s nothing (short of scratch-building, of course!) to equal the satisfaction of building a model where you actually have to put in a bit of work and the end result is something unique that you can look back on with satisfaction.

Rowan,
Always nice to see you buy another WWII aircraft model, but at this stage of the game, I’d much prefer seeing you post your current build progress, as I’ve often said, you do start many a kit, but I can count on one hand with fingers to spare the number of builds that have made it to the flight line over the last several years.

Rowan,
the site won’t let me post my comment as it’s a duplicate, but that can’t be as only you have posted in this thread that I can see. Here’s my post:

Hi Joel
I don’t know what the problem was that you were seeing, because it looks like your original comment went in fine.
Don’t worry – I won’t start the Bf 109A/B until I’ve finished Eduard’s Emil. I’ll be posting progress on that very soon, because I should have the cockpit and engine finished and installed this weekend.
The Dora Wings Bf 109A/B has already served a useful purpose, though, because I took it into work today as a teaching aid for one of our young special needs volunteers who’s just starting modelling. I took along a selection of tools to show him the basics of cleaning up and test-fitting parts, because he’s cock unstuck in his first efforts and is in danger of losing confidence. Seeing a limited-run model was a bit of an eye-opener for him, but I hope it was encouraging to see how quickly and easily you can deal with minor fit-issues and our old friend flash.
All the best

Hi again
I’ve posted a review of the Bf 109A/B over on Aeroscale: https://aeroscale.net/news/messerschmitt-bf-109a-b
My plan is to also have a Reviews section here on Noisy Models for items like this, but that’s still a little way off.
By way of an exciting coincidence, Eugen at Dora Wings has contacted me to see if I’d like to review a sample of their brand-new 1:48 Vultee Vengeance! He didn’t know I was all set to publish my take on the Bf 109, so the timing is extraordinary! Anyway, that will be an Aeroscale-only review, but the Vengeance will push the Bf 109A/B to one side as my follow-up build to Eduard’s Emil – a sample of Dora Wings’ latest kit has to take priority over a model which is out of production.
All the best
