As promised, a few pics of things getting underway on the Emil. The only minor moulding problems I’ve found are shallow sink marks on the wings at the tips and over the undercarriage attachments.
I’ve filled them with “superfiller” (CA + talc) and sanded it smooth. The surface just needs polishing.
The fuselage halves and interior are ready for basic painting. I’ve shaved the detail off the circuit breaker panel because I’ll be using this kit to try Eduard’s SPACE 3D decals for the first time.
The pilot’s seat nearly ended in disaster after being swalled by the carpet monster. When I found it again it showed marks indicating I’d either trodden on it or half-run it over with the casters of my chair! So, hopes of starting painting today vanished and, instead, I spent a while straightening and repairing the seat! Hopefully, it should look fine under a coat of paint…
Up front, the engine and nose bay parts are ready to paint. A few pieces are just dry-fitted for the photo.
And, finally, the main gear is basically cleaned up. The tyre treads need another passed, though.
So, a day later than planned, I should start painting things tomorrow.
More soon. All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan,
Looking good so far and quite a bit of progress done.
You wouldn’t even notice about the seat from the pics, so a job well done on salvaging it.
Looking forward to seeing some paint on this.
Will the engine be on show, or will you just leave the cowlings closed up?

There are some angry stress marks on the seat which you can’t see in the photo. Finding it on the floor was a classic “Hooray!” moment, swiftly followed by “You’ve got to be ****ing joking!”. π
I think I’m going to leave the cowls off- it’s either/or, because they won’t fit with the full engine and guns installation. If I do, I’ll probably add a few extra pipes and cables using lead wire.
Just a quick update. If you’re going to find any sink marks in a kit of a prop-driven aircraft, the rear of the propeller blades is a likely spot… and, sure enough, the Emil’s got them:
A dab of “superfiller” will soon sort them out. π
All the best

Hi Rowan,
They are some impressive sink marks. Should be easy enough to sort out for a man with your talents.
Have you got any paint on this kit yet?
Andy π
Yes, the basic colours are on! An old injury to my spine flared up a few days ago and made it hard to get much modelling done (or anything else!), but I’m chipping away at it (the model, not my back! LOL!).
Have you ever had one of those weeks where so much goes wrong at work, you wish you could press a reset button and start again – even if it means working longer! LOL! This week is proving to be like that for me, and I’m only now getting to the point I’d hoped to be at by late Monday morning…
So, needless to say, modelling’s totally taken a back seat – but I did fish out the sub-assemblies from the paint drier today and the basic colours look OK.
Touch wood(!), I should get a day off on Friday, so I hope to block in some of the detail colours then. After they’re sealed, things should get a bit of momentum. Adding the 3D decals isn’t far off, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they behave with my standard weathering techniques.

Woohoo! I will get tomorrow off work! π
So… I’ll definitely get a bit of work done on the ‘109 (plus tackle all the household chores that are stacking up… π).
All the best
