What can I say? Between work and catching Covid-19, life’s just got in the way somehow and this poor old Blog’s fallen to the wayside! Anyway, I reckon it’s time to get underway again – and what better excuse than the arrival of a sample of Eduard’s new-tool 1:48 Grumman Wildcat – complete with a bunch of upgrade sets! Major thanks to Jan at Eduard for arranging this – plus Andy Brazier for forwarding the package!Β
Watch out for an in-box review soon on Aeroscale.net, with a build to follow – plus updates here.

Hi Rowan,
It should be an interesting build, and knowing the quality of Eduard kits it should go together very well and be nicely detailed straight out of the box, without the need for all the extras you have as well.

Thanks for your input – Yep, the extras really need a second build to do them justice – “Overtrees” or a Weekend Edition to minimise waste. π€
Thanks too to israel-lady – sorry, your reply didn’t show up in my notifications, so this may be late. As you can probably tell, I’m a total beginner at this Blog malarkey(!) π- but I value constructive criticism and point taken – I’ll try to improve as I learn. π π
So – no excuses for lack of progress!… OK – a BIG excuse (sorry israel-lady!)! πThe weather here was just too nice last week! I couldn’t resist catching a few rays instead of sitting at the workbench! But rain is finally forecast, so I’ll definitely hope to get a bit done to the Wildcat this week.
And some music rehearsing too! – our last effort was so encouraging after finally catching Covid brought everything to a grinding halt. It was SO good to stretch those vocal cords again! π
More on all fronts towards the end of the week – I will try to slowly kick this little site into life! π
No pics yet, but I had a bit of a play today on the cockpit and undercarriage bay. As I think I pointed out in the Aeroscale review, the runner attachments are definitely something to watch out for on delicate parts like the seat brackets and engine bearers. Beginners, or anyone who’s impatient or ham-fisted could easily run into trouble. So, clean-up took a while – but Eduard’s Wildcat is in a class of its own in terms of detail straight from the box! π I’ve decided to go for the early version in pre-war colours for the OOB build so I can use the Brassin extras for a wartime F4F-3 further down the line.
I’ve got a music rehearsal lined-up tomorrow, so the Wildcat will have to take a back seat until Sunday. All being well I’ll start throwing some basic colours at it then, ready for some subtle highlighting (as a pre-war bird, it would have been meticulously maintained). It’s been a shockingly long time since I poked my nose into my proper workroom, so I just hope the recent heatwave hasn’t dried up the paints I’ll need…
